Well, we finally got the cooperation from Mother Nature for our March meeting. This helped to bring out a larger turnout wich in turn helps Out our DOM sales.
The Sales for the month was $28.00 and along with one membership renewal, our total take for the month was $43.00.
We also as a bonus had receipts of $57.25 from the proceeds of the flea market at Mid-Winter Madness in February. This was quite a success due to the fact that bad weather kept the donations down. Just think of the possibilities if all the members contributed something for the Flea Market. A couple of hundred dollars added to our coufers would not be out of the question.
Our only expense for the month of March was a $25.00 BBS upgrade, which was requested by Amos Jackson and quickly approved by the attending members.
The final tally for the month was a net gain of $75.25 to our account, bringing the balance to date at $595.92.
Also, since U.S. West did not charge a fee for installing the new line for our BBS, we ended up with a $56.00 credit balance out of the original $100.00 we allocated for the BBS set-up fees. This credit should take us through May with no additional expenses. All in all we are still sitting pretty good shape for 1994.

The way I see it, we have 30-40 members who support SPACE (attend meetings regularly). It is my understanding that these people are also interested in supporting the ATARI community, as staled in the by-laws. I had just thought it would be far easier for a group of people to support the costs of networking, than it would be for one dedicated individual. (NOT dropping any names here....) Author: SysOp To: Larry Serflaten (Recvd) Posted: Wed 23-Mar-94 at 11:00:00am Replies: 1 Well, as everyone who calls Warp 10 knows, I do the networking. SPACE would have only had to call Warp 10 (a local call) to get it's messages. I only would have had to call SPACE to get my messages, meaning free networking for the user group. The only cost would have been $20.00 for the software upgrade for the high speed networking, and that was a on tune cost. SysOp Message: 92 (#7359) - Reply to #90 Title: Networking... Author: Michael Fitzpatrick To: Larry Serflaten (Recvd) Posted: Wed 23-Mar-94 at 7:13:01pm Replies: 2 Alas, not all the people who attend the SPACE meeting are members in good standing (annual dues paid). Also, the many members who are in good standing do not avail themselves to the BBS. You are quite correct that the cost would be nice to be shared around, but; the many should not be asked to continue to support the few. I would like to see a surcharge added to the few who would avail themselves to the networking. That way the user gets to pay for the service. Message: 93 (#7360) - Reply to #91 Title: Networking... Author: Michael Fitzpatrick To: SysOp (Recvd) Posted: Wed 23-Mar-94 at 7:17:00pm Replies: 1 I would like to see the club involved more in the International Atari Community. The operative word there was "Club". Far too many who show up at the meetings don't seem to express the same interest that the few wish to make available to all. If only we could get stronger participation..... Message: 94 (#7363) - Reply to #92 Title: Networking... Fair to those who don't and gives each of us a real time idea of the cost and usage. I for one would be interested to know if it would be workable. Do you think an additional $5 per year would be fair? Making normal dues $15 and an additional $5 for BBS access? Message: 96 (#7366) - Reply to #93 Title: Networking... I mean from the lowliest 'Pong' and 2600 game system to the TI 030 and FALCON. ALL ATARI. The meeting would be Club Business, non-computer/system specific and then to break up into 'SIGs' (Special Interest Groups) for informal exchange of information/news. Simply stated, we need the members, AND, we need to start advancing the technology of our equipment. PLEASE, no arguments about which machine is 'Better' or more 'Advanced' or anything else. We are all Atarians and THAT is what we need more of. Besides, if we can get some of the 'Gamers' to come in and they see what can be done with their systems they could very well decide to upgrade. Everyone think it over before the next meeting because it will be coming up. If need be, I'll start the discussion. Richard Mier Message: 98 (#7379) - Reply to #95 Title: Networking... Author: Michael Fitzpatrick To: Larry Serflaten Posted: Fri 25-Mar-94 at 1:41:00pm Replies: 0 That was a specific stoppage as I really haven't the foggiest idea of what the general membership wants. A lot of sound ideas have been brought forth over the past year or two by various club members. What is really needed is to get more members to Commit to an involvement in a club project. Until that happens the same people will be doing the same thing(s) and the doers will eventually tire and move on. These disks were handed to Mr. Joe Danko. Mr. Danko has not been at many meetings lately (me neither) I'm their now! I would like to know what happened to the clubs new software, supposedly it was 14 discs full of Atari. these are 1.4 meg discs Thanks Tim Heller Message: 50 (#7361) Title: Donated Software Author: Michael Fitzpatrick To: Tim Heller Posted Wed 23-Mar-94 at 7:20:00pm Replies: 0 I don't know what Joe did with those disks? 1.44 meg disks full of software???? How was that done? The best I think cart be supported by Sparta X is 720 K. You might wish to get Joe's phone number from the membership chairman and give Joe a call.
A couple of posts from Flightline about the PC Xformer:
Date: 02-27-94 Msg # 5108 To: All From: Darek Mihocka Stat: Public Subj: 8-BIT EMULATOR I've seen various posts recently talking about an 8-bit emulator for the PC and where to get it. The one I am working on, PC Xformer (an MS-DOS port of ST Xformer) is not in beta testing or yet available anywhere, so claims about it sightings should be taken with a grain of salt. I read one post about an emulator that requires SuperVGA 640x480x256 mode. That is not PC Xformer. So let's lay some rumors to rest. I did show an early version of PC Xformer about 2 years ago at the Chicago Atarifest and I will be showing a more complete version of it next month at the Sacramento Atarifest and passing out some information about it. Since most people would never be caught dead in Sacramento, Mail me (not email) your name and mailing address and I'll send you that info: Darek Mihocka 14150 N.E. 20th St. #302 Bellevue WA 98007 Here is a quick summary of what PC Xformer does and major changes from ST Xformer: -runs on any 286/386/486/Pentium or non-Intel processor that emulates at least a 286. -full speed emulation on roughly a 386/20. 286s will run slower. A 486/66 emulates 8 times faster than normal. Fast enough? An option allows you to slow down to roughly normal speed. -requires a VGA card only, not a SuperVGA, since it uses 320x200x256 mode. Over scanned programs don't go beyond 320x200. -GTIA, DLIs, and PM/G are supported. (unlike ST Xformer which didn't support any of those graphics features due to the slow speed of emulation and crippled graphics of the ST). -at the moment, no support for using the Xformer Cable. Transfer your 8-bit files to time ST using the Xformer Cable and then use those files on the PC, or use SIO2PC. Other info (such as a compatibility list, beta testing info, etc.) will be mailed out later on, so send in your mailing addresses. I don't read this news group on a regular basis, so please send question by mail. -Darek Date: 03-25-94 Msg # 5438 To: HENRY KAPALA Conf: (106) Atari 8Bit - From: JAMES ALEXANDER Stat: Public Subj: 8-BIT EMULATOR Darek Mihoka has recently released an 8bit emulator for the PC called PC Xformer. I'm not sure of who's selling it and price though. Don't expect it to be exact 8bit duplicate though, Dareks track record for emulators (ST Xformer & gemulator) isn't perfect, you may find the programs just won't run under it always so try to test drive it at a dealer or a user group before you buy. P.S. Hank could you do us one favor? COULD YOU STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS, IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR SCREAMING AT US!!!! Thanks. Bfn, James
