Treasurer’s Report
by Greg Leitner

The August meeting was pretty quiet but relaxing. It was nice to have the time to just talk to other members. Now that Summer is almost over, I think the attendance at the future meetings will pick up. I noticed that we only get one to two membership renewals each month. With a membership base of over 40 current members we should be getting an average of about four renewals monthly. I hope you all realize that the club really needs this support of dues to keep the club strong financially. Dom sales are important but it takes more than that to cover our monthly expenses.

I read in the current MAST newsletter that they are moving next months meeting to Farmington because they can get free space and they are having a hard time covering the monthly cost of the Community Center in Falcon Heights. We still are financially sound with a balance of $649.62 for the period ending 8/20/93, so I don’t forsee us having the problems facing MAST for some time to come. I just want to let you all know that most months the expenses exceed our income and we can only survive so long this way. Well, enough of the gloom. Let’s see how we did for August 1993.

The club paid out expenses for the BBS phone bill and the August Newsletter.

Also we made a small purchase of software for future raffle prizes. We had one membership renewal and sold some doms and blank disks. The final tally is that we increased our bank blance by $25.90 for the month of August. It has been a rare occurance for us to exceed expenses this year so I congratulate you on your support of the club through your purchase of doms and I hope you continue to do so at the upcoming meetings this Fall.

A BBA Report was given by Mike Fitzpatrick, BBs sysop. He said BBS operations is going Okay. Amateur show '93

The 1993 Amateur show was held at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood, Mn. The show was held on July 16th and 17th. Mike Schmidt, Tom Stellach, and Mike Weist manned the Space club booth at the show. We were visited by several Space club members and people interested in our club. Alots of people had questions about membership and equipment. Like every year, there are bargins at the show. I found some Atari programs and some computer paper for my printer and other things. The show this year was not as big as in other years. This is because I think poor advertisement of the event, the weather wasn't the best, the roads looked like a battle zone, and there were alots of other events at the same time.

For those that were there, I think they had a fun time.Next electronics show is scheduled for October '93 at the St. Paul Civic Center. It will he the annual Hamfest.

FROM THE EDITOR...

Hello everyone!

About two days after the August club meeting, both of my drives decided to go belly up! I had my old 1050 that was experiencing motor problems (it ran slow, sometimes stopping entirely) and a refurbished 1050 I had just bought from CSS (Bob Puff), that simply would not boot anything.

Since the purchase was REAL recent I decided to call Mr. Puff to get that one working. He had me ship it back. About a week and a half went by when I began to get worried about the news— letter deadline. I contacted Rich Mier to get a line on finding a new motor for the older drive. He directed me to American Techna—Vision (15338 Inverness St. San Leandro, CA 94579). These guys still put out an ATARI 8—BIT catalog! Well, they ship one anyway, the one I got was printed some time last year.

Claiming one of the worlds largest inventories of Atari 8-hit material, it was an impressive sight. I'll bring it to the mext meeting....

None the less, on about Wednesday the 1st of Sept I called our BBS from another computer to let everyone know what happened to me. Too had I used a NEW slot, I couldnt post anywhere....

So Friday came, the drive mechanism I ordered from American Techna-Vision AND the drive from CSS came in the mail. I havent opened the one from CSS, but the new mechanism is working just fine.

Thats my EXCUSE for being late. I hope you will understand. You must rea1ize I normally do the best that I can when time permits, however, this issue was a rush job to get out before the meeting.

Thanks and here are a couple phone #s you may want to keep handy....

Space 11th Birthday Party

Well once again the Space club celebrated their club birthday party. This year marks the 11th year the club has been in existence. Once again this year with help from the Fitzpatricks, the Birthday Party committee, and the club membership the party was a success. I would like to say if you didn't want to to have fun and have good food the party was no place for you. We had a few visitors that have not been around in a while, they were Mitch Mclaughlin and Tony Walsh. Nice to see the both of you, come back in the future.

The club membership was treated to quite a feast of food. Ham that was bought by the club. Rachel Thompson's famous pizza, that didn't last long, because it was so good, and Al Noble's special K bars made a great dessert. Once again the membership was treated to Nathan Block's famous Atari trivia contest. I always look forwards to this every party. Because it is so fun. The winning team was treated to a free disk of the month. Our side lost, hut we had a fun time anYway.

After the party a raffle was held to give Atari gifts to the winners. Can't wait till the Space christmas party in December
